E (3)b Exchequer grants towards cost of Meat Inspection.
Circular F.S.H. 2/57 dated 11th April, 1957 announced
that the appropriate Minister had decided to offer a contribution
to Local Authorities' costs of meat inspection. The object
of the grant is to assist those Local Authorities on which
the cost of inspecting meat in slaughterhouses, imposes an
unduly heavy burden because much of the meat inspected
is not for local consumption. Proportionate grant therefore
is now applicable for the units of "export meat" this being
meat which is in excess of the Local Authority's datum
figure i.e. a calculation of units representative of meat consumed
in the Local Authority's area.
For the purpose of calculating export meat and datum
figure units respectively, one beast is regarded as 10 units,
one calf or one pig as 3 units, and one sheep as 2 units.
The necessary returns have been prepared for presentation
to the Ministry concerned.

of Foods Circular 10/54 dated 20th June, 1954, meat rejected
