D(12) Rent and Mortgage Interest (Restrictions) Act 1939.
(a) During the year, the Chief Public Health Inspector
dealt with 91 applications for assistance regarding standard
rents and extortionate payments. Appended below is a summary
of the improvements which were effected:—
(a) Rent reduced from 30s. to 14s. 9½d.
(b) Rent reduced from 15s. to 12s.
(c) Rent reduced from 16s. to 14s.
(d) Rent reduced from 29s. to 27s. 6d.
(e) Rent reduced from 15s. to 13s. 7d. and £7 7s. 4d.
returned to the tenant.
(f) Rent reduced from £2 1s. 2d. to £1 9s. 8d.
(g) Rent reduced from 17s. 6d. to 15s.
(h) Rent reduced from 17s. 6d. to 15s.
(i) Rent reduced from 28s. 6d. to 27s. 6d.
(b) Several applicants were referred to the Rents Tribunal
under The Furnished Houses (Rent control) Act 1946,
and the Landlord and Tenant (Rent control) Act 1949, with
good results.
(c) Two enquirers were introduced to the Poor Man's
Lawyer.
(d) Three owners were instructed to provide rent books
to conform with the requirements of Section 6 of the Rents
Act 1938.
(e) One enquiry re ownership was referred to the
Marriage Guidance Council.
