D (11) Housing Repairs and Rents Act 1954
This Act came into operation on 30th August, 1954.
The maximum increase in rent following repairs to property is
twice the statutory repairs deduction for the house for the
purpose of rating purposes. A house must be in good repair
before a repairs increase can be claimed by a landlord, who
must continue to maintain it in that condition.
If, however, the rent is already more than twice the gross
rateable value, no repairs increase at all is permissible.
At the end of the year one disrepair certificate had been
applied for, and this was subsequently granted.
