B (4) Smallpox
During the year under review information was received
from the Medical Officer of a local firm that several of the
firm's employees had been in contact with a smallpox contact.
Enquiries revealed that these employees had been in contact
with a representative of the Birmingham branch of the firm
who had, while returning by air from South Africa, shared
sleeping accommodation with a smallpox contact. As a
precautionary measure these local employees were vaccinated
and kept under observation, none developed any suspicious
symptoms.
