Sanitary Inspector's section gave talks and lectures to visiting
parties of school children during the mornings describing the
disinfestation section and the bacteriological display which was
kindly included in the department's stand by courtesy of the
Metropolitan Water Board.
Other contributors of exhibits were as follows:—
The Borough Refuse Collection Service.
Messrs. Lomas, supplying stretcher equipment as used in
the Council Ambulances.
Messrs. Harland Engineering Co., Ltd., supplying a bore
hole pump model.
Central Council of Health Education, provided gramophone
records and pictorial displays.
Messrs. Siebe Gorman, Novox apparatus.
Photographs were also exhibited showing various phases of
the Council's Health services including the public health ambulance
; day nurseries, the maternity home and the borough
refuse collection service.
A public foot clinic was in daily session and members of
the public by application at the stand were able to make
appointments to see the chiropodist. This experiment proved
exceedingly interesting, and as was shown by the increase in
numbers of attendance at the end of the week the general
public gradually overcame an initial shyness and began to take
a practical interest by booking appointments.
The section of the stand which also created a great deal
of interest was that in connection with the disinfestation
service. A number of household pests were on view in glass
containers, also stuffed specimens of rodents together with
photographic exhibits, the latter being supplied by the Ministry
of Food.
The stand itself was tastefully decorated, the floral displays
provided by members of the staff, and the voice of the Radio
Doctor (on a gramophone record) booming out from a hidden
recess attracted a great deal of public attention.
Pamphlets dealing with almost every phase of the Public
Health Service were handed out to the public and also specially
selected booklets were given to the visiting Head Teachers for
the use of their pupils.
