Non-compliance with Section 10 of the Shops Act, 1934,
relating to health and comfort was located in the following
instances, and Notices were consequently served to effect the
necessary improvement:—
Notices served.
Insufficient closet accommodation 4
Absence of washing accommodation 1
Lack of heating facilities 2
With regard to the Notices served, adequate heating facilities
were subsequently installed in two shops, and though the
Notices respecting additional washing and closet accommodation
were not complied with by the end of the year, the
necessary work was in hand.
No action has been taken during the year under Section 46,
Public Health Act, 193G, in respect to sanitary accommodation
at offices within the Borough. In no case has it been located
that insufficient sanitary conveniences exist at such premises.
E(7)e. Camping Sites.
1'here are no summer camping sites within the District.
There are however 4 sites within the Borough which have been
constantly occupied by van dwellings for a number of years.
Frequent inspections have been made by the Sanitary
Inspectors during the year when the Borough Bye-laws have
been stringently enforced.
No licenses have been granted by the Local Authority
during the year under Section '269 of the Public Health Act,
1936.
E (7) f. Hop Pickers.
There are no hop fields within the district.
E(7)g. Rag Flock Act.
There are no premises in the district in which rag flock is
manufactured, used or sold.
E (7) h. Smoke Abatement.
Twelve smoke observations were carried out at various
factory shafts in the District, but no statutory action was taken
during the year with regard to the abatement of nuisances from
smoke.
The closest co-operation exists between the various factories,
and the officers of the Local Authority, and informal
action in one instance resulted in the increasing of a laundry
steel shaft by 8 feet.
