Following up and Summary Work by School Nurses.

Following up work by the school nurses is summarised in the following table:

Visits paid to the schools1014
Children examined16424
Children found with vermin235
Visits to homes864
Attendances at Ophthalmic Clinic43

It will be noticed that although the number of visits paid
to schools, and the number of children examined, has greatly
increased over last year's work, the number of children found
verminous was less. The various duties of the school nurses
include their attendance at the Minor Ailments Clinic, and the
Dental and Ophthalmic Sessions, at their respective times.
Minor Ailments are treated at the school clinic, but in all
cases where practicable children suffering from defects, other
than Minor Ailments, are referred to general medical practitioners
or to Hospitals.
Apart from the use of the clinic as a treatment centre, it
performs the function of re-examining certain children who
were discovered at previous inspections to require observation ;
also children are presented for examination 011 the advice of
teachers or parents.

Set out below is a table giving the number of children examined, together with the total attendances, at the various clinics:—
