THE SLAUGHTERHOUSE REPORTS (APPOINTED DAY)
ORDER, 1959.
Last year I referred to the Slaughterhouses Act and Regulations
which dealt with construction standards for slaughterhouses for
hygiene and the prevention of cruelty to animals, hygienic practices,
isolation of slaughterhalls from dwellings, and the safety, health
and welfare of workers in slaughterhouses and knackers' yards.
During the year under review, the Council submitted to the
Minister the required Slaughterhouse Report on the existing and
probable future requirements of the district and the facilities which
are available to meet these requirements.
There is only one slaughterhouse in the Borough and action
was undertaken to ensure that it complied with the requirements
of the Regulations and that the "Appointed Day" could be fixed
by the Minister. In the meantime the owners have submitted
proposals for enlarging the slaughterhouse but the Council favour
the re-location of the slaughterhouse.
