INQUESTS
Fifty-one inquests and one-hundred-and-twenty-seven Postmortem
examinations without inquests were held during the year.
Of these, 139 deaths were due to natural causes, 31 to accidental
causes, 3 to suicide, 3 to misadventure, and in 2 cases an open
verdict was recorded.
FATAL HOME ACCIDENTS.
Last year I wrote at some length on the subject comparing
Enfield figures with the National pattern. This year again in
Enfield the emphasis is on fatal accidents to the aged, all being
between the ages of 61 and 100 years, except 1 person aged 30 years.
The 9 fatal home accidents to Enfield residents involved 7 females
and 2 males.
The causes of death in four females and one male were falls
causing fractured bones followed by lung complications. The
cause in one female was traumatic cerebral softening following fall
downstairs ; in the case of one female the cause was coal gas poisoning,
in another to electrocution, and the cause of one other male
was asphyxiation due to inhalation of vomit.
