TOTAL INSPECTIONS
One-hundred-and-ninety-two visits were paid in respect of
infectious diseases during the year, and the total number of inspections
and visits for all purposes made by the Sanitary Inspectors
was 23,420.
During the latter half of the year two vacancies in the Inspectorial
Staff were filled, and this increase of staff is reflected in the
number of inspections, which, during the year under review, was
23,420, as compared with 17,405 in the year 1947. It is appropriate
here to mention that a great deal of the Sanitary Inspectors' time
is taken up by numerous interviews with members of the public
each day.
The Inspector appointed to carry out the requirements of
Section 58 of the Housing Act, 1936, and the provisions of the
Shops Acts, 1912 to 1936, made the following number of visits
during the year:—
Housing Act, 1936 4.725
Shops Acts, 1912-1936 1,645
Total 6,370
STUDENT SANITARY INSPECTORS
The Council co-operated with the Ministry of Health in a
Government-sponsored scheme for the post-war training of

training in practical work with the Enfield Sanitary Inspectors, and
all the students passed the qualifying examination.
