In addition to the large numbers of fillings and extractions
carried out, 1,430 other operations were performed, consisting of
root dressings, root fillings, scaling and polishing teeth, gum
treatments and adjustments to regulation apparatus, etc.
A comparison of the dental condition of children five to six
years old attending three schools in the district shows that there
was during 1946 a marked increase in two schools and a slight
decrease in one school, of the percentage of children found to be
"naturally fit" in 1939. "Naturally fit" means that all teeth were
present in a naturally perfect condition, no tooth having suffered
from dental caries at any time.

The number of carious teeth and the number of teeth lost per child inspected also showed an appreciable decrease in these three schools.
