The number of cases attended by the Municipal Midwives
shows a very marked increase over the previous year, 323 more
cases having been attended. This extra work, combined with the
difficulty in securing an adequate number of Midwives throughout
the year, placed a heavy strain on the service, but nevertheless, a
high degree of efficiency was maintained.
In accordance with the rules of the Central Midwives Board the following notifications were received:—

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE IN RESPECT OF
MIDWIFERY FEES
Financial assistance was given in 130 cases. This compares
with 206 in 1945 and 214 in 1944.
