Samples of food were taken and submitted for analysis. In
investigating the outbreak we had the help of officials of the Ministry
of Health, and I would like to pay tribute to their promptness,
efficiency and courtesy.
It was found that the custard powder was heavily contaminated
with bacteria which had probably produced a poison or
toxin.

The following report, in condensed form, gives details of the
work of the Sanitary Inspectors during the year 1941.
The total number of inspections made during the year for all
purposes was 10,426. This figure which is approximately the same
as for the previous year is accounted for by the fact that the Department
was without the services of one District Sanitary Inspector
for several months.
