work of the Health Department. It has been integrated as a
corporal part of those services, and in acknowledging my thanks
to the Health Department I would include the Deputy Ambulance
Officer, Mr. Evans ; the Casualty Staff Officer, Mr. Jeffrey ; the
Depot Superintendents ; the Nurses and personnel of the civil
defence service.
1941 was marked by the retirement of Mr. Fred Wilson, who
for no less than 40 years had served the Council as a Sanitary
Inspector, during the latter 15 years of which he was Chief Sanitary
Inspector.
Few officers in charge of a Department can have had more
loyal service or closer co-operation than I had over many years
from Mr. Wilson. To his dogged persistence and devotion to duty
there are many monuments in Enfield ; not made of bricks and
mortar but fashioned in the hearts of those with whom and for
whom he worked for so many years. There are many who owe
the better surroundings in which they live to his work, others to
whose comfort he has materially contributed. In his retirement
I join with my staff in wishing him continued health in which to
enjoy the leisure he has so deservedly won.
In his place we welcome Mr. " Noel Smith who has already
served Enfield for the past 40 years. A well-tried and trusted
servant, we feel that in him we have an enthusiast who will in no
small measure contribute to the protection of Enfield against
disease.
I beg to remain,
Your obedient Servant,
D. H. GEFFEN,
Medical Officer of Health.
