While everything possible is done by the District Sanitary
Inspectors to secure the speedy execution of the varied classes of
work, I have been able to expedite the progress of repairs considerably
by interviewing the owners and agents of property.
Where there has been no reasonable excuse for delay, a suitable
warning from the Council has been of much assistance in securing
the completion of works without having recourse to legal proceedings.
Some inconvenience was experienced during part of the year
owing to the fact that we were short of one Sanitary Inspector
for some months.
722 visits were paid in respect of children excluded from elementary
schools during the year, and the total number of inspections
and visits for all purposes made by the Staff of the Public Health
Department was 30,828.
