Mr. J. C. HOGG, F.R.C.S.
For the Year Ending 31st December, 1937.
To the Chairman and Members of the Enfield Education Committee.
Mr. Chairman, Ladies and Gentlemen,
I beg to submit my report on the work done in the Aural Department for the year ending 31st December, 1937.
| 1936 | 1937 | |
|---|---|---|
| Number of cases dealt with | 303 | 433 |
| Number of new cases | 198 | 327 |
| Total number of attendances | 683 | 851 |
| Number of cases discharged cured | 182 | 214 |
| Number of cases of a recurrent nature requiring occasional treatment | 17 | 15 |
| Number of cases still under treatment | 35 | 112 |
| Number of cases which have refused treatment or sought treatment elsewhere | 30 | 25 |
Sixty-nine children were recommended for removal of tonsils
and adenoids, of which forty-five have had the operation, eight have
refused treatment, eleven are awaiting operation and five have been
operated on privately. Of the Welfare Department children, forty-five
have been referred for removal of tonsils and adenoids, and one case
for removal of adenoids only.
Three cases have been admitted, under my care, to the Throat
Hospital, Golden Square. The first case was operated on for chronic
mastoiditis and has since made a complete recovery; the second,
a case of cleft palate was admitted for removal of the tonsils by
dissection, and the third was admitted for the removal of an aural
polypus. The latter was much improved and has since left school.
