I would call the attention of the Committee to the increase
of work shown in the report of Mr. Hogg, and, moreover, to the
large number of children that have been cured as a result of attendance
at the special Ear, Nose and Throat Clinic.
Mr. Macky's report shows a steady continuation of the work
of the Eye Clinic, with special reference to the number of children
who are receiving themost modern treatment available for squint.
Two points of outstanding importance emerge from the report
of the Senior School Dentist. In the first place he has demonstrated
very definitely the good effects of continuous dental treatment,
by his comparison between the dental condition of children
at the Central School, who have received regular treatment, and
those of a similar age at the Junior Technical School, who until
recently have not had adequate dental treatment. It will be
remembered that it is only during the last two years that a dental
scheme for children attending the Junior Technical School has been
in operation. Not only is there a bigger percentage of children at
the Junior Technical School in need of treatment, but, moreover,
the state of dental decay in the children there is more advanced.
The second point is that the ideal to be aimed at is regular
dental examination every six months. The least that would be
adequate would be an inspection once a year. To achieve this
Enfield would require two more dentists. I am hopeful that in
the near future the Committee will increase the staff in order to
overcome this deficiency in the school dental service.
I would take this opportunity of thanking the Committee for
its continued courtesy throughout the year, and all the members
of the staff for their help and co-operation.
I am, Mr. Chairman, Ladies and Gentlemen,
Your obedient Servant,
D. H. GEFFEN,
School Medical Officer.
