Some inconvenience was experienced during the year owing to
the fact that we were short of one Sanitary Inspector on the Staff
for some months.
1,386 visits were paid in respect of children excluded from
elementary schools during the year, and the total number of
inspections and visits for all purposes made by the Staff of the
Public Health Department was 22,872.

176 vacated Council houses were disinfested during the year.
Of these, 79 showed signs of vermin—44 per cent. of the total.
It is a decision of the Council that before an occupier may
transfer from one Council house to another, the person wishing to
be transferred must, on inspection, be found to be occupying a
house free from vermin.
DISINFESTATION OF VERMINOUS HOUSES.
It is the practice of the Health Department to inspect every
Council house as soon as it becomes vacant, in order to ascertain
if the house be verminous; where vermin are found the house is
disinfested before being re-let.
