In view of the large amount of woodwork that there is in
Council houses in Enfield. disinfestation by these methods tends
to be an expensive item.
Consideration was given during the course of the year to the
use of Cyanide, but owing to the dangers associated therewith the
Council determined against its use.
It would certainly be necessary in Enfield to remove the
residents from the whole of a block of houses were Cyanide to be used.
Towards the end of the year experiments were carried out with
the use of Heavy Naphtha; this is used as a spray, and no woodwork
need be removed.
The experiments which have been carried out are decidedly
encouraging, and I hope to include a full report on this matter in
next year's Report.
(3) No methods were employed for ensuring that the belongings
of tenants were free from vermin before removal to Council
houses.
The experiments referred to above include the use of Heavy
Naphtha in a removal van.
(4) The work of disinfestation is carried out by the Local
Authority.
