A record was kept of the gain in weight of children receiving
milk in school free of charge, and the average gain worked out at
about six pounds during the year.
CO-OPERATION OF PARENTS.
Seventy-nine per cent, of the children examined in our elementary
schools were accompanied by their parents; this is an improvement
of 3 per cent, on last year, but is no higher than it was in 1931.
I do not think I would be asking too much were T to expect that
100 per cent, of the parents came with their children to routine
examination. Their presence is of two-fold advantage; in the first
place they can explain to the doctor the child's medical historv
and the peculiarities of health to which the child is subject; in
the second place they can receive personal advice from the doctor,
not only as to physical defects, but as to the general hygienic
upbrirging of children both mentally and physically.
CO-OPERATION OF TEACHERS.

of the teachers I have become aware of many cases that subsequently
derived great benefit from medical attention.
CO-OPERATION OF SCHOOL ENQUIRY OFFICERS.
Arrangements are in force by which the School Enquiry Officers,
on becoming aware of absence from school due to infectious disease
or contact therewith, notify the School Medical Officer. On the
other hand, the School Medical Department notifies the Director
of Education of similar cases in order that he may pass on the
information to the Enquiry Officers.
CO-OPERATION OF VOLUNTARY BODIES.
The children's Care Committee provides help for necessitous
children in those cases that cannot be helped within the scope of
