THE TEACHING OF HYGIENE.
The teaching of hygiene is part of the routine of the school
syllabus, which includes a special course in such training for junior
and senior children. In connection with Housecraft and Mothercraft
teaching, arrangements have been made for the Health Visitors
to visit Senior Girls' Departments to give a demonstration of the
bathing of a baby, with the Housecraft teacher assisting. This is
part of the educational course laid down for all girls from ages
12 to 14.
The following demonstrations have taken place:—
By Miss Newbegin at Bush Hill Park
School 5 demonstrations.
By Miss Newbegin at the Central School 3 demonstrations.
By Miss Newbegin at Suffolks School 2 demonstrations.
By Miss Garlick at Chesterfield Road
School 3 demonstrations.
By Mrs. Herbert at Lavender Road
School 1 demonstration.
By Mrs. Herbert at Chase Side School 1 demonstration.
By Miss Wilkinson at Alma Road
School 2 demonstrations.
Thus 17 demonstrations were given during the year, as compared
with ten last year.
OPEN-AIR EDUCATION.
There are no open-air schools or classes in Enfield.
PHYSICAL TRAINING.
In September, 1935, the Education Committee appointed Mr.
Dixon as organiser of physical training, to supervise the physical
training of the children throughout the elementary schools and
instruct the teachers in the latest methods of physical training.
I have come into contact with Mr. Dixon on many occasions
and I hope that by means of close co-operation with him much
may be achieved to improve the physical condition of Enfield's
school population. I am hopeful that later I shall be able to
co-operate with him in arranging for special classes for children
suffering from minor physical defects.
