Messrs. Shelvoke and Drewry has proved a decided acquisition to
the District. The work of emptying cesspools has been much
expedited and carried out in a far more sanitary manner.
SCHOOLS AND HOSPITALS.
The arrangement with the Education Committee is still carried
out as regards the conveniences at all non-provided Schools, and
these receive daily attention as regards cleansing by one of the
employees of this Department. The drainage systems of all elementary
and secondary schools in the District are examined by the
Sanitary Inspectors.
At both the Isolation Hospital and the Enfield War Memorial
Hospital the sanitary arrangements are under the supervision of
this Department, and those at the Isolation Hospital are attended
to regularly in accordance with arrangements made by the Joint
Hospital Board, while those at the War Memorial Hospital are
attended to weekly as a voluntary service on the part of the Council.
In addition, a large amount of disinfection has been carried out
at the latter Hospital free of charge.
PUBLIC CONVENIENCES.
The public conveniences at the parks and pleasure grounds,
and also five attached to public-houses, making eighteen in all, are
under the supervision of this Department.
Those attached to the public-houses receive daily attention
by a man specially detailed from this Department for that purpose,
and are kept in a satisfactory condition.
Arrangements are being made by which during the coming year
a system of full-time attendance to all conveniences throughout the
District will be commenced. This, I hope, will lead to considerable
improvements with regard to the condition of public conveniences
in the District.
HORSE TROUGHS AND DRINKING FOUNTAINS.
Drinking fountains, and also four horse troughs in the District,
receive daily attention as regards cleansing.
