Might I refer to the fact that during the year Diphtheria broke
out in an Institution in Enfield. It shewed a tendency to be
serious and I have no doubt whatsoever but that it would have been
serious and cost loss of life had the Public Health Department, the
Medical Officers of the Institution, and the Ministry of Health not
combined to take active and immediate steps. Yet Diphtheria
should never occur in a residential Institution for healthy children.
This Report would be incomplete were I not to express my
thanks to the Chairmen of the various Committees and the Members
of the Council for their courtesy throughout the year.
I would also record my thanks to every Member of my Staff
for the help and co-operation I have received.
I beg to remain, Gentlemen,
Your obedient Servant,
D. H. GEFFEN,
Medical Officer of Health.
