Reference to the laboratory report shows that 1,580 swabs
were examined during the year. This number exceeds that for
1934 by 572.
This increase is due to the fact that there were 77 cases of
Diphtheria notified during the year as compared with 37 in 1934,
and to an outbreak of Diphtheria in a residential Institution in the
District.
A report on this outbreak will be found under the heading
"Infectious Disease," together with a reference to Diphtheria
immunisation.
LEGISLATION IN FORCE IN THE DISTRICT.
Sanitary Administration. Adoptive Acts.
The position has not been altered since my Annual Report for
1932, and for information in this respect reference thereto is advised.
BYE-LAWS AND REGULATIONS.
The alteration in the boundaries of Enfield consequent upon
the ceding of Cockfosters to the Borough of Southgate, gave the
Council an opportunity of revising the Bye-laws and Regulations
that have been made for the District of Enfield.
In this connection new Bye-laws and Regulations have been
framed in accordance with the models of the Ministry of Health in
respect of the following:—
Nuisances.
Common Lodging-houses.
Slaughterhouses.
Houses Let in Lodgings.
Tents, Vans, Sheds and Similar Structures.
Offensive Trades.
Cleansing of Earth-closets, Privies, Ashpits, etc.
Consent to these new Bye-laws and Regulations from the
Minister of Health is now being awaited.
