Annual Report of the Senior School
Dental Surgeon,
Mr. C. E. JAMES, L.D.S., R.C.S. (Eng.)
for the year ending 31st December, 1935.
To the Chairman and Members of the
Enfield Education Committee.
Mr. Chairman, Ladies and Gentlemen,
I beg to submit the annual Dental Report for the year ending
31st December, 1935.
The outstanding event in the Enfield School Dental Service
during 1935 has been the initiation of dental inspection and treatment
for children attending the secondary schools. Tables and
figures given later in this report show the urgent necessity for the
inclusion of these children in the dental scheme.
As a result of the large amount of work carried out for secondary
school children, figures relating to elementary school children were
considerably reduced during the year under review, as compared
with previous years. The following figures show the reduction
in the number of elementary school children inspected and treated.
1934 1935
Total number of elementary school
children inspected 6,869 4,139
Total number of elementary school
children treated 3,552 2,577
There was a corresponding reduction in the number of fillings
and extractions for elementary school children. It is anticipated,
however, that more of the latter children will be inspected and
treated in the coming year, since the secondary school children who
have now been rendered dentally fit will require little or no further
treatment.
With regard to the total amount of work done during the year,
for elementary and secondary school children combined, there was a
slight increase in the number of fillings inserted in permanent teeth,.
as shown by the following figures:—
