Annual Report of the School
Aural Surgeon.
Mr. J. C. HOGG, F.R.C.S.
For the year ending 31st December, 1934.
To the Chairman and Members of the
Enfield Education Committee.
Mr. Chairman, Ladies and Gentlemen,
I beg to submit my report on the work done in the Aural
Department for the year ended 31st December, 1934. During the
year we have dealt with 250 cases, of which 167 were new. The
total number of attendances was 718. Of these 145 have been
discharged cured, and there are 21 cases of a recurrent nature which
require occasional attention, but which have again been discharged.
There are 30 children under treatment, seven have refused treatment,
and in two cases treatment was sought elsewhere, privately
or in hospital.
Twenty-five cases have been recommended for the removal of
tonsils and adenoids, of which four have refused operation.
One case of long standing aural suppuration was admitted to
the Ear, Nose and Throat Hospital, Golden Square, under my care,
for a radical mastoid operation. She has subsequently been discharged,
and is attending for occasional after treatment.
During the year under review, 23 infants, totalling 51 attendances,
have been seen in the Aural Clinic, referred from the Welfare
Centre. None of these remain under treatment.
I should once more like to express my thanks to the nursing
staff of the Southbury Road, and other clinics, for their help and
co-operation during the past year.
A detailed list of cases is appended.
I am, Mr. Chairman, Ladies and Gentlemen,
Your obedient servant,
J. C. HOGG,
School Aural Surgeon.
