PLACES OF PUBLIC ENTERTAINMENT.
Thirty-one inspections of cinemas and other places of entertainment
were made in accordance with the recommendation contained
in the Circular of the Ministry of Health, dated August 25th,
1920.
The sanitary accommodation at each place was found to be
satisfactory and sufficient.
There are prospects now of places of entertainment of a more
imposing and luxurious character being erected in Enfield.
Whether this can be considered a matter calling for consideration
from the sanitarian I do not know, but it is evident that this latest
craze of the public is going to be very much catered for.
Perhaps it might be thought desirable that occasionally a few
of the pictures were those that would educate the public in some way
as regards sanitation. Unfortunately, the public taste at present
is for pictures of a more exciting nature.
OFFENSIVE TRADES.
The following offensive trades are established in the District:Fish
Fryers 28
Rag and Bone Dealers 3
Glue Maker 1
Soap Boiler 1
and in connection with these, 87 inspections were made during the
year.
It will be noted that the number of offensive trades in Enfield
has not increased. Repeated visits are paid to ensure them being
kept in a good and sanitary condition.
With regard to the Fish-fryers, 15 have been established with
the consent in writing of the Council, and the majority of the oldestablished
businesses have now been fitted with up-to-date frying
stoves.
Milk.
Routine inspection of cowsheds, dairies and milkshops has been
carried out during the year under the Milk and Dairies (Consolidation)
Order, 1926. The standard of cleanliness has been fairly
well maintained.
I am pleased to say that the farmers are favouring the use of
sterilisation plants, and there is an increase in the number being used
in the District.
There is also a further extension of the practice of milking cows
by mechanical apparatus, and this appears to be a success and has
come to stay. It undoubtedly appears to add to the cleanliness of
milk production.
