It is probable that there will be sufficient space to continue

SANITARY INSPECTION OF DISTRICT.
A full report on this matter is contained in the statement
and report of the Chief Sanitary Inspector, which will be found
at the end of this Report.
SMOKE ABATEMENT.
No legal action was taken during the year under the Smoke
Abatement Act.
SUB-LETTING IN COUNCIL HOUSES.
The terms of the agreement under which the Council's house
are let does not allow the tenant to sublet without obtaining permission.
During the year I have continued to consider and determine
the cases in which sub-letting was to be allowed in Council houses,
in accordance with the Resolution passed by the Council on December
13th, 1927.
The following work was carried out:—
Total number of applications dealt with 100
Number granted permission to sub-let 84
Number refused permission 16
Number of letters sent 275
Number of visits made by Sanitary Inspectors 153
As a result 153 visits wore made by the Sanitary Inspectors
during 1933, as compared with 240 in 1932, and 275 letters were
written as compared with 398 in 1932.
I have tried on every occasion to deal sympathetically with
these applications to sub-let, and whenever it has been possible to
grant such permission without detriment to the health of the tenants,
or the property of the Council, I have done so.
