The quantity of Fresh and Dried Milk supplied to necessitous
cases under the assisted Milk Supply Scheme during the year was
as follows:—
Fresh Milk 19,860⅝ Galls, costing £1,825 11s. 2½d.
Dried Milk 3,683 lbs. costing £273 19s. 0⅜d.
During the course of the year the Council determined to
consider the erection of three Maternity and Child Welfare Clinics
where Maternity and Child Welfare work could be carried out
instead of at the present premises.
Whilst the premises which we have occupied in the past
have been satisfactory to a point, they have lacked many of
those advantages which can only be expected from premises built
specially for the purpose.
In no case are the present premises built for semi-medical
work ; they can only be occupied at special times and on special
days, and there is no hot and cold water laid on in the rooms.
The rooms, moreover, are not as free from dust as such Clinics
should be.
An examination of the figures shewed that it would be
possible to build and maintain three new Clinics at an annual cost
of little more than is being paid at the present moment for the
hire of the premises that we now occupy. The Council therefore
determined to erect three new Centres on the following sites:—
On a piece of ground at the junction of Baker Street and
Rosemary Avenue.
On a piece of ground adjoining the Bush Hill Park Council
Schools.
On a piece of ground situate in St. Stephen's Road, Enfield
Wash.
Plans have been drawn out and approved by the Council
and sanction has been obtained from the Minister of Health to
the scheme generally. It is to be hoped that these Clinics will
be completed during the course of 1934.
Early in the year with the consent of the Education Committee
it was determined to hold the Clinics previously conducted at the
Hut, Alma Road Council Schools, in the new School Clinic in
Glyn Road.
