of refuse collected and disposed of, as against 9s. 3d. in 1928.
This equals 2s. 0.5d. per annum, or 0.47d. per week per head of
the population. The cost for each house is 9s. 2.1d. per year, or
2.1d.each week. These figures compare very favourably with those
of other districts of a similar nature, and especially so when it is
remembered that Enfield is the second largest urban district in
England. We thus have to contend with very long haulage distances,
which materially increase the cost of collection in comparison with
other districts.
The matter of haulage is receiving further attention by this
Department in view of any question of buying a further vehicle,
and a re-arrangement of the collection in the district will have to
be gone into.
As against the cost shown above, there is again a consideration,
that during the past year about half an acre of land has Been
reclaimed.
