Diphtheria.
The number of cases vary from year to year and they were
more numerous than in 1924. Diphtheria being very prevalent in the
surrounding districts accounted for some of our cases.
One-hundred-and-thirty-four cases of this disease occurred
during the year in 90 houses, as follows:—
Number of cases where 1 case occurred 70
„ „ 2 cases „ 13
„ „ 3 „ „ 5
„ „ 4 „ „ 1
„ „ 19 „ „ 1
Total number of houses where cases occurred 90
Deaths 17
As soon as a case was notified the contacts were swabbed and
in this way I discovered the "carriers"', and insisted on strict isolation
of all such cases.
Diphtheria Anti-toxin is supplied by the Council free of charge
and in addition to the Public Offices, supplies and swabs are kept
at various points in the district within easy reach of the Medical
Practitioners.
To indicate its use, I may say that no less than 250 bottles,
each containing 4,000 units were supplied during the year.
Small Pox.
There being no cases of this disease there was no necessity for
me to vaccinate any one during the year.
