Realising the importance of securing as speedily as possible the
removal of all insanitary conditions, especially in connection with
dwellings, our constant endeavour has been to obtain the carrying
out of necessary works without delay. It was only in a comparatively
few cases where legal proceedings had to be threatened,
and a warning from the Council proved sufficient in each case in
securing the carrying out of the works required.
The number of visits paid re children excluded from Elementary
Schools during the year was 1,929, and the total number of inspections
and visits for all purposes made by the Staff of the Sanitary
Department was 20,878.
Removal of House Refuse.
Early in March we received delivery of the 2½-ton Edison Electric
Vehicle referred to in the Report for 1920, and it has proved a
great acquisition.
We found it practically took the place of three horses and carts,
and by its use we have been able to secure an efficiency and control
of the work that was not possible with horses alone, while for the
outlying portions of the District it has proved of inestimable benefit.
