door, and one a few doors further along in the course of six days.
As the result of a house-to-house visitation and a personal inspection
of every child in the row, I discovered the original cause of the
outbreak in the person of a small boy who had been indisposed
for one day with a sore throat, and was kept at home that day,
but was allowed to attend school the following day.
A small outbreak in another isolated part of the parish comes
under the same category. From information received. I visited
a house and found four children recovering from what the mother
supposed to be Measles; as a result of this I interviewed nearly
all the children in the neighbourhood and found six others recovering
from a slight attack of the disease.
In connection with this little outbreak, I should like to acknowledge
the very great assistance I received from the Head Mistress of
the local elementary school.
The 160 notifications received referred to 158 cases, which
occurred in 116 houses, as follows:—

DIPHTHERIA.
Seventy-two cases of Diphtheria occurred during the year in
64 houses, although I received 75 notifications.

A reference to the chart will shew that in 15 weeks, including
4 consecutive ones, no cases were reported, and for 18 weeks we only
received one each week.
On receipt of a notification it is my invariable custom to swab
as many contacts as I can find, and by this means I was able to
discover 17 carriers during the year, and I always swab every child
