The following articles were also submitted for inspection,
and as in each case it was found that they were unfit for food of
man, certificates to that effect were given, so that the owners
could secure the return of the money paid from the wholesale
traders:—
March 27th—2 boxes kippers.
Sept. 14th—24 rabbits.
HOUSE DRAINAGE.
It will be seen that a large number of house drains have,
again this year, been tested, also cleared and repaired. All new
work has been closely supervised, and in every possible instance
tested with water during its progress, while a final test with
smoke and water is also applied on completion.
PUBLIC ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS.
By an arrangement between the Council and the Education
Committee, I have all the sanitary arrangements attached to the
non-provided schools regularly cleansed and Hushed each day,
while we also make periodical inspections of the sanitary conveniences
at the provided schools, and report as to their condition
to the Education Committee.
The motor car provided by the Council for the use of Mr.
Collins, the Council's Engineer and myself, has continued to
prove a great advantage, enabling the whole of the District to
be kept under observation, and frequent visits made to any part
requiring special attention.
The staff of the Sanitary Department remains the same as
last year, and I am glad to take the opportunity afforded by this
Report to acknowledge and thank them all for their hearty cooperation
throughout the year, and the real interest displayed in
their work, which acknowledgment includes the outdoor staff
connected wih the department.
I am, Gentlemen,
Your obedient Servant,
A. J. Mlnro, M.R.Sati.l.,
Inspector of Nuisances.
