"E.C., the boy who had returned from the Hospital on Sep"tember
23rd, had Diphtheria Bacilli in his nose ; his brother, a
"baby of 8 months, was in a similar condition; and P.D., a boy
"next door, was also carrying Diphtheria Bacilli in his nose. All
"these children were perfectly well, in good condition and high
"spirits, and there were absolutely no indications from a clinical
"point of view to show that there was any difference between them
"and the other children in the houses, but the fact is made quite
"clear that out of seven children four were in an infectious condi"tion
and liable to spread Diphtheria far and wide, and that this
"condition of affairs could only have been discovered by the
"science of Bacteriology.
"As the result of my investigations I am inclined to believe
"that T.D. was the original cause of all the trouble, and that
"though he gave a negative result in June this may be accounted
"for by the fact that "carriers" often do give negative results
"alternating with positive ones.
"It is only fair to the medical man in charge of the cases to
"state that every credit is due to him for diagnosing the disease
"on June 26th, as it was a most obscure case with few or none
"of the ordinary symptoms of Diphtheria."
