IMMUNISATION.
As and from 5th July, 1948, immunisation against Diphtheria and
Whooping Cough became the responsibility of the Middlesex County Council.
Diphtheria.
During the year, 1,896 appointments were made—1,554 children completed
treatment under the Council's arrangements ; of these 1.459 were under
5 years of age. 12 children were Schick tested. In 1947, 1,498
children completed immunisation treatment. In addition 205 children
received a re-inforcing injection. Up to 31st December, 1948, 52.92% of
children under 5 years of age and 72.14% of children from 5—15 years of
age had completed immunisation treatment.
Whooping Cough.
During the year, 1,067 appointments were made for this treatment—875
children completed treatment and 18 children were given re-inforcing injection.

CANCER.

The incidence of Cancer relative to the various organs of the body is given as under:—

PREVENTION OF BLINDNESS.
Cases of ophthalmia neonatorum are promptly visited and, if thought
necessary, are removed to hospital for treatment. No cases of blindness have
arisen during the year due to this cause.
ESTABLISHMENTS FOR MASSAGE OR SPECIAL TREATMENT.
In 1941 the Council resolved that Part 7 of the Middlesex County Council
Act. 1934, be put into operation in the Borough.
