INSPECTION AND SUPERVISION OF FOOD.

Milk Supply.

Various licences were granted as under :—

One of the above retailers is licensed to bottle Tuberculin tested milk and
one firm is licensed to pasteurise and bottle milk on the premises; one firm
is licensed to bottle pasteurised milk on the premises.
Supplementary licences are granted to retailers who live outside the
Borough but who sell milk in the Borough ; the primary licence is granted by
the Authority in which they reside.
Unsound Food.

The following is a list of the food surrendered for examination and retained as unfit for human consumption :—

395 pkts. Glenmar Products.25 lbs. raisins.
312 lbs. Goteborg Sausage.292 lbs. pork.
3 doz. " Tesco " bun flour.200 lbs. tripe.
12 calves livers.72 tins pancake mixture.
247 lbs. rolled oats.32 tins beetroot.
12 boxes tomatoes.16 tins soup.
3 boned legs of pork.19 lbs. tea.
1 leg mutton.40 tins Yorkshire peas pudding.
82 lbs. mixed fish.3 boxes haddock.
5 stone roe.3 boxes flats.
1 cwt. dog fish.3½ stone herrings.
2 boxes skate.60 lbs. fillets. 1 cwt. cod.

Together with various small consignments of miscellaneous foods. The
above items do not include the food dealt with at shops subjected to damage
on account of " Enemy action."
Shops Acts.
The Shops Acts Inspector submits a monthly report to the Public Health
Committee, and the following is a short summary :—
Visits to shops, licensed street traders, etc. 3,241
Contraventions —
Chemical and Bacteriological Examinations of Food.
The only examinations carried out by the Council are those for designated
milks. The matter has been discussed previously.
