[Report of the Medical Officer of Health for Edmonton]

I am very grateful to the Chairman ana Members of the Education
Committee for their courtesy shown in the work of the School Medical
Service.

School Medical Officer
1. STAFF.
During the year there were a few changes in staff.
Miss B. E. T. Cross and Miss C.D. R. Logsdon left during the
early part of the year owing to marriage, and their places were
filled by temporary clerks. On the 24th June, Miss A. Savill and
Miss E. R. Cross commenced uuties with the Department as clerks.
Mr. Bernard R. Allen was enlisted in H.M. Forces on the 2nd
August.
I regret to say that Mr. Eric Underhill, School Dentist, contracted
poliomyelitis during August and in consequence the services
of Mr. VJ. Howitt were engaged, in a temporary capacity, until the
6th December, when Mr. Howitt enlisted in the Royal Air Force.
2. CO-ORDINATION.
Co-ordination between the School Medical, Public Health and
Maternity and Child Welfare Departments was greater than it has-ever
been in previous years and smooth working between the general
practitioners, the Education Office and teaching staff continued
to exist.
. SCHOOL HYGIENE.
Arrangements for School Hygiene were the same as in previous
years.

4. MEDICAL INSPECTION.

The number of children fully examined in the routine inspection of each group during the year 1940 was 7537 , a nd the analysis of the age groups were as follows:-

5. FINDINGS OF MEDICAL INSPECTION.

(a) Malnutrition.

The following table givos the classification of the nutrition of the children inspected during the year 1940 in the routine age groups:-
