MUNICIPAL MILK SUPPLY Contd.
In July 1940 the Ministry of Food introduced the National Milk
Scheme, whereby members of the Public could obtain milk at 2d per pint or
free in necessitous cases. This has meant that the Maternity and Child
Welfare Scheme of distribution was no longer required, but it is still
possible for children under 5 years of age and nursing or expectant mothers
to receive an additional pint of milk per day through the Maternity Department,
if such a course is desirable on medical grounds and they come within
the scale of income.
