I would like to extend ray very best thanks to the Members of
the Maternity and Child Welfare Committee for their co-operation during
the year and to the members of the Staff, who through many vicissitudes,
have unfailingly carried out their duties.
The under-mentioned information will give some indication of
the work carried out by the Department during the year 1940:-

BIRTHS.

The total number of births notified during 1940 was as follows
