INSPECTION AND SUPERVISION OF FOOD
MILK SUPPLY

Various licences were granted as under:-

Two of the above retailors arc licensed to bottle Tuberculin Tested Milk,
and one firm is licensed to pasteurise and bottle milk on the premises; one
firm is licensed to bottle pasteurised milk on the premises.
Supplementary licences are granted to milk retailers who live outside the
Borough, but who sell milk in the Borough; the primary licence is granted them
by the Authority of the area in which they reside

SHOPS ACTS
The Shops Acts Inspector submits a monthly report to the Public Health
Committee, and the following is a short summary:-
Visits to Shops, Licensed Street Traders etc, 2,801
Contraventions 33
Proceedings were taken against 4 traders and fines were inflicted as
follows:- 1 of £4 2 of 10/- and 1 of 5/-.
(CHEMICAL AND BACTERIOLOGICAL EXAMINATION OF FOOD
The only examinations carried out by the Council arc those for designated
milks; these are sent to the Counties* Public Health Laboratories, The matter
was discussed previously.
PREVALENCE OF INFECTIOUS DISEASE
MEASLES AND WHOOPING COUGH
Those diseases were made compulsorily notifiable in October, 1939. 308
cases of Measles and 47 cases of Whooping Cough wore notified during the year.
There were no deaths from Whooping Cough and only one death from Measles.
In October of this year the Council agreed to supply Measles Immune Globulin
to General Practitioners for the treatment of Edmonton children, subject to
the Doctors signing a statement that the material would be supplied to the
patient free of charge.
DIPHTHERIA
Once again I am happy to report a still lower incidence of this disease.
Only 14 cases were notified during the year. There was one death.
