SPECIAL HOUSING CASES
During 1962 57 families were referred to the Department for special
consideration for Council housing accommodation on medical grounds.
All the families were visited, and after consideration of the reports
received from the Inspector visiting the homes and the medical certificates
or letters submitted with the applications, 28 of the families
were recommended to the Housing Committee as being in need of
more suitable accommodation.
By the end of the year 12 of these families had been rehoused in
Council accommodation and two elderly persons accommodated in
the Council's new premises for such persons at Vale Court, Bulwer
Road, New Barnet. This particular scheme, which provides homes
for 18 elderly women, has proved very successful, and there would
appear to be an urgent need for more accommodation of a similar
type, judging from the number of applications for recommendation
received by the Department. I am grateful for the help given by the
Housing Manager and his deputy in the rehousing of these medical
cases in the most suitable accommodation available.
