inevitable delay in rehousing the occupants of these houses. Several
isolated houses have been the subject of either demolition or closing orders
and the scattered black spots in the district are steadily but slowly lessening.
The Chief Public Health Inspector has commented at length on the
Clean Air Act and it is likely that the district will not be behindhand
in the application of this Act-greatly to the benefit of the general health
of the area.
Food Hygiene continues to be vigorously pursued by the Department
and local traders co-operate admirably in this matter. In fact it would
be fair to say that the trader is in general more conscious of his responsibilities

helpful co-operation given by the Chief Officers and Staff of all departments
whenever their assistance has been sought.
C. M. Scott,
Medical Officer of Health.
