Measurement of Air Pollution
Daily volumetric instruments for measuring smoke and
sulphur dioxide in the air and deposit gauges for
monitoring local emissions were maintained in operation
during the year.
The overall figures for the daily volumetric instruments
show an average reduction compared with 1970 of 5% in
the amount of smoke and 7% in the amount of sulphur
dioxide in the air.
The deposit gauge figures show an overall 16% increase
in airborne particles.
