11. ARTIFICIAL KIDNEY MACHINES
Under Section 28 of the National Health Act the local authority is able to make
arrangements for a suitable room within a private dwelling to be adapted for the
installation of a Home Dialysis Unit. The equipment is installed and supervised by the
hospital authorities.
The authority can raise charges for the adaptations and such charges are made in
accordance with the Council's assessment procedure.
One new patient was referred during the year bringing the number having home dialysis
in the Borough to 8.
