MEASUREMENT OF AIR POLLUTION
Daily volumetric instruments for measuring smoke and sulphur dioxide in the air and deposit
gauges for monitoring local emissions were maintained in operation during the year.
The overall figures for the daily volumetric instruments show an average reduction compared with
last year of 1% in the amount of smoke but an increase of 8% in the amount of sulphur dioxide in the
air.
The deposit gauge figures show an overall 19% increase in solid deposit in the air.
