Details of overcrowding under Section 90 of the Housing Act, 1957:-

Of the 17 prosecutions for contraventions of the terms of Directions given under
Section 19 of the Housing Act, 1961, 16 were successful and 1 was withdrawn. Fines
totalling £202 were imposed in these 16 cases, and a total of £82. 19s. 0d. costs
were awarded to the Council. The fines ranged from £5 to £50 and the costs from
£2. 2s. to £10. 10s.
In one case of prosecution for failure to abate overcrowding a fine of £20 and
£5. 5s. costs were imposed.
There were 6 prosecutions for failure to give information contrary to Section 19
of the Housing Act, 1961, which resulted in fines of £10 and costs of £7. 7s. in each
case.
Two prosecutions for failure to comply with Section 15 or 16 notices resulted
in fines of £20 and costs of £10. 10s. in each case.
