30. REGISTRATION OF PREMISES USED FOR MEDICAL PURPOSES
Nursing Homes
Nursing homes are required to be registered with the local authority under Section
190 of the Public Health Act, 1936, and at the end of the year, seven nursing homes were
registered with a total of 262 beds. During the year, alterations were made to one of the
homes so that two extra patients could be accommodated.
Visits are regularly made to all nursing homes to ensure that they maintain
satisfactory standards.

Establishments for Massage and Special Treatment
The Council requires all persons operating an establishment for massage or
special treatment to be registered under Part XII of the Middlesex County Council
Act, 1944.
All establishments are inspected annually to ensure that they are satisfactory.
Byelaws made under the Act state that the licensed person must exhibit a complete
scale of all fees or charges, keep records of people employed at the establishment,
and keep particulars of cases treated.
There is a total of 31 establishments used by licensed persons in the Borough as
