A Smoke Stain Reflectometer employing a photo electric
cell is now being used to assess the smoke filter papers
Until now visual estimation of the smoke stain with a
standard scale of shades has been employed The new
apparatus has a distinct advantage over this method as it
eliminates inaccuracies inherent in visual estimation
even by a trained observer,

The results obtained from these instruments are given in the following tables.
