Scarlet Fever.—Out of 232 cases of scarlet fever only 90
cases were removed to hospital. Accommodation for cases of
scarlet fever at the Isolation Hospital has been much reduced
and only in exceptional circumstances have cases been admitted.
There was one death from this disease.
Diphtheria.—All the cases of diphtheria were removed to
hospital. There were no deaths from this disease.
Diphtheria Immunization.—The protection of children by means
of immunization is considered on page 32.
Measles and Whooping Cough. — Measles and whooping
cough became notifiable under the Measles and Whooping Cough
Regulation, 1939. The following number of cases were notified:—
Measles 791
Whooping Cough 271
There was one death from measles and two deaths from
whooping cough during the year.
The number of cases of measles admitted to hospital was 18.
